"You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the L-rd your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand  generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.

An idol in the strictest sense of the word is anything given dimension to represent a living creature.  In Leviticus we are also told not to create representations of the stars, moon, planets or sun.  We are also told not to worship angels or celestial beings.  You must decide by communicating with God what is pleasing to Him.  Let us truly love God with everything we are and have!

You can also make just about anything in your life an idol.  If God isn't on the throne of your heart, you can make a change.  You need to have the Creator be seated on your heart's throne, for if He isn't then who is?  If you'd like to make Him L-rd of your life, follow this hyperlink.

Bringing God down to the level of what YOU want Him to be is also idolatry.  We must reach up to Him as He has reached down to us first.  God is not a man, His ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts.  He wants us to reach up to the higher way and by His Holy Spirit we can reach to the higher heights.

If you read Leviticus 26 you will discover that because we don't give God first place, our nation will fall into the following things:

Leviticus 26:1 "Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the L-rd your God."

If we don't follow this we will see fear, crop failure, death of our children, occupation by the adversary, and finally captivity and slavery.
