Many believers have forsaken this commandment and it is very sad to me. Keeping the Sabbath is such an honor and a privilege. Many other believers don't know much about the Sabbath so they "keep it" as far as their knowledge goes. In our family we began a serious search for the truths we found lacking in the places we went to worship. So much of what is taught is not based upon scripture. We, along with countless others went back to the Hebrew roots of our faith to find out just exactly what Sabbath and other biblical truths were all about. Sunday is the first day of the week. It has always been the first day of the week. It hasn't always been called "Sunday", that came in with paganism, but it has always been the first day. That means that Saturday (also a pagan name for a Roman deity) is the seventh day or Sabbath. In many languages the seventh day retains its biblical name. In Spanish they call it Sabado, in Russian "Subbota". The Sabbath day is supposed to be the day when we rest from our labors. It is a day filled with family, with faith, with study of the word, but one major thing is missing from this day. What is that thing? Can you guess? Work!!!! You are specifically told in the fourth commandment not to work. I can't think of any better way to spend a day than in Sabbath rest. I hope these words encourage you to study and learn more about the Sabbath for yourself. I can honestly say that the scripture "labor to enter into His rest or Sabbath" actually means something to me! As we say on Sabbath "Shabbat Shalom" or Sabbath peace. There is a Sabbath day that we don't always see and that is the "seventh day" or 1000 year millennial reign of Yeshua Hamashiach. If we are ignorant of the natural Sabbath and keeping it we won't keep that time as holy in our hearts as well. If you read Leviticus 26 you will discover that because we don't give God first place, our nation will fall into the following things: If we don't follow this we will see fear, crop failure, death of our children, occupation by the adversary, and finally captivity and slavery.
